Drink Right—Essential for Healthy Skin

Do you have to drink water to have beautiful skin? What role does water play? When should I drink, and how much? Here are a few answers to the questions we’re asked regularly.

SCHÖNE HAUT

An adult weighing 70 kilograms has slightly more than 42 liters of water in their body (60% of our body mass): 28 liters in the cells, about 10.5 liters in the space surrounding the cells, and slightly less than 3.5 liters (or about 8% of the total water volume) in the blood.

The skin is one of our body’s most important water reservoirs.
It plays a crucial role in ensuring that our body functions properly. To perform its functions optimally, the skin must be adequately hydrated. When we describe skin as beautiful, it means that it is well hydrated. The skin’s water content determines its level of hydration.

THE ROLE OF THE WASSERS IN OUR REGION

Did you know that the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, is like a sponge?

It absorbs water from the dermis, the layer directly beneath it. This moisture ensures that our epidermal cells remain nourished and full of vitality—thanks to essential elements such as oxygen, glucose, and fatty acids. But the water doesn’t just come from the inside; it can also come from the outside, for example, when you wash yourself or use moisturizing products.

Water plays a crucial role in the healthy functioning of our skin. In fact, it is central to its functions. Think of it as the fuel that powers the engine of our epidermis.

And did you know that hydration and keratinization—that is, the accumulation of keratin in our skin cells—go hand in hand? This process can only work properly thanks to water. Keratin, that magical fibrous protein produced by our cells, is essentially the foundation of our skin. It gives our skin structure, makes it water-repellent, and protects it from UV rays. In short: Pamper your skin, keep it hydrated, and it will thank you with beauty!

HYALURONIC ACID + WATER = BEAUTIFUL SKIN

The water in our skin is the best friend of hyaluronic acid, a large protein found in our dermis. Together, they make an unbeatable team! Think of hyaluronic acid as a water reservoir in your skin that can bind between 300 and 500 ml of water per gram.

And that's not all! In addition to this bound water, there's another supply of free water that's ready to move around and nourish our epidermis. It's as if our skin has its own irrigation system—fascinating, isn't it?

If you use a hyaluronic acid-based cream every day, I recommend using our AQUAPOP rehydration solution as a supplement to get the most out of it. It contains the electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to optimize your hydration levels. Not only does it taste great, but it’s also sugar- and calorie-free. Perfect for daily enjoyment—for a slim figure and beautiful skin.

WARNING SIGNS OF A SORE THROAT

What is dehydrated skin? It’s skin that’s pulling a face! Imagine it as a sponge that’s been left in the desert: It feels tight, it lacks suppleness—in short, it’s anything but happy. Dehydrated skin is practically an invitation to discomfort. Sometimes it even flakes and looks like an old, crumpled road map! And worst of all: it can even make you look older—fine lines and all.

Oh, and here's a little bonus tip: Men's skin is often even more thirsty than women's skin. So there's no way we're going to let our skin go thirsty— we'll pamper it with a generous dose of moisture!

DRINKING TO HYDRATE THE SKIN

For our skin to function properly and stay in top condition, it needs water. And since it loses water throughout the day, it’s up to us to replenish it—by drinking enough fluids. Without this daily intake, our skin cannot fulfill its role as a natural barrier and loses its suppleness. Well-hydrated skin is a sign that our body is also well-hydrated.

So water is our best ally for beautiful skin! But when and how much should you drink? Well, an adult loses about 2 to 2.6 liters of water per day, mainly through urine and sweat. This can vary depending on temperature, activity level, and even illness. As a rule of thumb, however, you need about 30 ml of water per kg of body weight per day.

For example, someone who weighs 70 kg needs about 2.1 liters of water per day. But that doesn't mean you have to drink only plain water! Foods such as fruits and vegetables also provide water.

Basically, it’s about drinking water regularly throughout the day. And when it’s hot or we’re very active, we need to drink even more to make up for what we lose. The trick is to maintain a balance: what we give our bodies must be enough to replace what they lose. So, let’s raise a glass to well-hydrated skin and radiant health!
